Mazan

Born in 1968 in Périgueux, Pierre Lavaud, known as Mazan, as soon as he passed his "Plastic Arts" baccalaureate, he enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Angoulême, in the Comic Strip section; he graduated in 1989, strengthened by the Alfred Avenir. Mazan creates all his stories - script and drawing - with extreme care given to colour, revealing a very rich range of tones. Developing the story of the Grand Mal, he completed his second album, Lumière sur le Front, in 1992 - the fruit of rigorous, tireless work. Mazan operates like a miniaturist, thanks in particular to his colour technique, the secret of which he alone holds. The 1992 edition of the Angoulême Festival rewarded him with the Alph-Art award in the "Coup de coeur" category and the Audience Award. A founding member of the Atelier Sanzot, he continues his work through new paths, as well as that of advertising. Faithful to his technique and style, he made two adaptations of Grimm's tales and was awarded the prize for Best Children's Album in Erlangen (Germany) for Le Vaillant Petit Tailleur. Mazan has a very personal style characterized by a humorous tone with a touch of humor, where delicacy can give way to a more incisive humor. Thus in his album Dans l'cochon tout est bon, where he takes a sharp look at the strange relationship between our civilization and food. In addition to the series C'est aujourd'hui dimanche, Mazan collaborates with Isabelle Dethan on Kheti and, with Gérard Moncomble Ulùpi, princesse chipie and Le Voyage d'Ulùpi, he has written two Far Eastern children's books.
