Cécile Chicault

Born in Paris where she spent part of her childhood, Cécile Chicault settled with her parents in the Dordogne. At the University of Bordeaux, she obtained a Master's degree in Plastic Arts, then the agrégation. She teaches in college for a year but returns to her first passions: drawing and writing, having always dreamed of becoming a comic book author. She then completes her training in the Comics workshop of the School of Fine Arts in Angoulême. Her very first comic book is the adaptation of Grimm's tale The Devil with Three Golden Hairs (Delcourt). She is quickly noticed by obtaining the Alph-Art Jeunesse award at the Angoulême International Festival in January 2000. Then came the creation of the youth series Zélie (3 volumes, Delcourt). Alongside her comic books, Cécile Chicault also produced illustrations for the children's press and school publications. She worked in all classes and media libraries, ran comic book courses for children and adults, and took part in numerous exhibitions (Bastia, Angoulême, Antibes, Aurillac, Angers, Saint-Junien festivals, etc.) and also, in China, at the first French comic book festival in Beijing. In the company of Hervé Pauvert, she produced the historical series La Saga de Wotila, which retraces the adventures of a Visigoth in Aquitaine in the 5th century (3 volumes, Delcourt), followed by two illustrated albums, Jean de Fer and Peau d'Âne (Scutella).
