Turf

Born in 1966 in Marseille, where he spent his childhood, Turf abandoned his architectural studies to join the École des Beaux-Arts d'Angoulême, in the same class as Jean-Luc Loyer, Jean-Luc Masbou, Tiburce Oger and Claire Wending; he graduated three years later. After a brief stint in the animation sector, Turf launched himself into comics by teaming up with Joël Mouclier for the first volume of the series Les Remparts d'écume (Delcourt). In 1993 the first album of La Nef des fous (Delcourt) was released, which remains his major achievement. In 2009, Turf gave this series a seventh album, Terminus, destined to be his last, and then launched into Le Voyage improbable, between 2014 and 2016. In 2017, he resumed his La Nef des fous series with the volume Disparition, inaugurating a new three-volume cycle, eight years after the series' initial discontinuation.

Attached to the city of Angoulême, Turf took part in the Circuit des murs peints with a fresco nearly 12 meters high spread over three buildings in a popular district. His main work, La Nef des fous, was adapted for the theatre by Angoulême high school students.
