Sophie Guerrive
Born in 1983 in Marseille, Sophie Guerrive is a French comic book author. She studied at the University of Aix-en-Provence and at the École supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Strasbourg. She then opened a small illustration gallery in Marseille, but this was only short-lived.
Passionate about comics since childhood, she began publishing short, minimalist stories with her first book Girafes, in 2007, followed by volumes 1 and 2 of Chef Magik, published by Warum. Her absurd and offbeat style is then affirmed. At the same time, she developed a completely different kind of illustration inspired by medieval book illumination, engraving and Japanese prints. From this work, in 2011 and 2012, Marines et Médiévales will be published by Ion.
In 2015, then in Angoulême, at the Maison des auteurs, she created her first long story Capitaine Mulet, an adventure comic book in medieval style.
The famous Tulip was born in 2016, followed by Tulip's Travels in 2017 and Tulip and the Sorcerers in 2019 (of which we are publishing an image). It is a collection of short stories about animal characters, in which several subjects of everyday life are discussed, such as love relationships or the passage of time.
These three books were included in the official selection of the Angoulême International Comics Festival 2017 and 2018 and 2020.
